Dance, Dance, Dance-The Old Teaching the Young

Last Year Elder Hatch and I attended a Single Young Adults Choir Concert on New Years Eve. We had a wonderful time. The Congolese really know how to sing and they performed a great concert. One that really gets you feeling pumped up and dancy feeling inside. Well, the last song they sang, which was in English, was "When the Saints go Marching In". Well the song lasted a long time and soon they started clapping and so we did too, then we stood and marched and really got into it. The choir sang loudly and swayed and marched and danced and......well Elder Hatch and I decided to start dancing....we were swing dancing to "When the Saints Go Marching In" we had a blast....Well, to make this long story shorter, after the eternal song ended and we sweated up a storm, they came up to us and requested us to teach them to dance. Here are the pictures of the dance lessons we have had. Another really cool story that goes along with this is, we had two awesome Embassy Interns that came and we hooked up with them and one of them just happened to be the President of the William and Mary University Ballroom Dancing Club. Yes, we scored!! He was so nice to come and help us teach since Elder Hatch and I just make up our dance moves. He taught them the waltz and the real Cha, Cha! Elder Hatch and I taught them the Virginia Reel (they called this Pioneer Dance), the Cotton Eyed Joe (they call this the cowboy), the Cha Cha Slide (line dance)Thank you Andrew and John for being such great friends, and great dancing teachers! You were Heaven Sent!!!

Dancing is a universal language. We may do it a little differently, but it sure makes for lots of fun activities. Can you believe old white people teaching the younger generation how to dance???? And the younger generation teaching us old people how to dance!!! And we all loved it!!
All the couple missionaries came and supported us too...even the Mission President! It was a hot time in the old town every Friday Night from 5 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. (We have to be home before it gets really dark.) I wish I had better pictures, but it's much funner to dance than to take the pictures. Sorry

Fun! I bet you and dad were smokin' dancers! I've seen you dance!
How cool to be a part of that!

Now we know who will be teaching a dance class around here when March rolls around! :) Sign me up.

I notice that they seem to have a grip on the each other's arms, rather than the typical position of the guy's hand on her waist/back and the girl's on his shoulder. Is that the dance you were learning or just what they're more comfortable with? Just curious. :)

Keep up the good work-- that's so good for all of you. Love it.
